4 Lessons I Learned from Taking a Break

4 Lessons I Learned from Taking a Break

After sharing why I took a break and what’s next for Beyond Broke and Hungry, I wanted to open up about the lessons I learned during my time away.

Whether you’ve taken a step back from your own wellness journey, career, or personal projects, I think you’ll relate to what I’m about to share.

So here are four lessons I learned from hitting pause on my own path:

1. Burnout Is Real—And It’s Okay to Rest

It’s so easy to feel like you’re failing if you can’t juggle it all—work, personal life, wellness routines—but sometimes, the most productive thing you can do is rest.

I learned firsthand that pushing through burnout doesn’t get you closer to your goals; it just leads to exhaustion and resentment.

Takeaway: It’s okay to give yourself permission to slow down and recharge. Rest isn’t a setback—it’s a step forward.

2. Leaning Into God’s Plan

During this time of rest, I found myself leaning more into God and His plan for me.

It was a humbling reminder that I don’t have to carry the weight of everything on my own.

Trusting Him, even when things feel uncertain, brought me peace and clarity that I desperately needed.

Takeaway: When life feels overwhelming, lean into God’s presence. Surrendering to His plan can give you strength and comfort beyond what you can imagine.

3. You Can’t Pour from an Empty Cup

During my hiatus, I realized that I was trying to give so much to others (whether in my business or personal life) without taking care of myself.

As cliché as it sounds, you can’t pour from an empty cup.

Stepping back helped me prioritize my own well-being and refill my cup so that I can show up better for all of you.

Takeaway: Self-care isn’t selfish. Whether it’s taking a day off, meditating, or just enjoying a cup of tea in peace—find moments to recharge, so you can give your best to others.

4. The Journey Is Just as Important as the Destination

I used to be so focused on the end goal—whether it was a project, a fitness milestone, or reaching the next level in my business—that I forgot to enjoy the process.

This break reminded me that it’s the small, everyday moments that make the journey worth it.

Takeaway: Don’t be so focused on the end result that you forget to enjoy the journey. Progress takes time, and it’s okay if things don’t happen overnight.

Wrapping It Up:

Taking a break was one of the best things I could have done for myself. It’s given me fresh perspective and renewed energy to continue building Beyond Broke and Hungry.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed or burnt out, know that it’s okay to step back and realign your priorities. You’ll come back stronger for it.

Let me know—have you ever taken a break from something important? What did you learn?

Thanks for sticking with me.

Let’s keep growing together! You got this, friend! 💚
