When God Prunes Your Business: Faith, Finances & Trusting the Process

Have you ever lost a client, a contract, or an opportunity — and wondered if God just… dropped the ball on you?

I have. And honestly, that question is exactly why I knew I had to record this episode.

In Episode 68 of Beyond Broke and Hungry, I'm getting into something that doesn't get talked about enough in the faith-based business space: what it actually looks like to let God lead your business on the hard days. Not just the Sunday "I trust you, Lord" — but the Monday morning when the invoice doesn't get paid, when a client you were counting on goes quiet, and when your bank account does not match your vision board.

Been there. Multiple times. And I'm talking about it all.

What We Cover in This Episode

This one goes deep. We're walking through four things I believe every faith-driven entrepreneur needs to hear:

How to pray over your business — before things break. I had to learn the hard way that I was treating God like a repairman instead of a business partner. There's a big difference between inviting God in before you send that proposal versus calling on him only after the sales call flopped. In this episode, I share what a real prayer practice for your business can actually look like (hint: it doesn't have to be an hour).

Trusting God with your finances — even when it's terrifying. Fear and faith can coexist. God doesn't ask us to pretend we aren't scared. He asks us to bring that fear to him and trust him anyway. I talk about tithing in lean seasons, what it shifted in my spirit, and why I stopped seeing my clients as my source.

What pruning seasons are really for. This is the part I really needed someone to tell me. I lost multiple clients in one season last year, and in the moment, I felt like a complete failure. I was questioning my niche, my pricing, my calling — everything. But God was doing something I couldn't see yet. I share exactly what happened, what I learned, and how to recognize when you might be in a pruning season too.

Redefining success on God's terms. We've been handed a version of success — six figures, a big following, the waiting list — that doesn't always hold up next to the Word of God. I want to challenge the metrics you're measuring yourself by, because peace is a metric. Purpose is a metric. And your business? It's a ministry.

A Story I've Never Really Told

One of the most personal moments in this episode is when I open up about losing multiple clients back-to-back last year. It wasn't because my work wasn't good. It wasn't because I did anything wrong. It was because God was pruning me — making room for what he actually had in store.

At the time, it didn't feel like preparation. It felt like punishment.

If you've ever been in that place — where things that used to work just… stop working, where doors you expected to open stay closed — this episode is going to hit differently for you. I read from John 15 and share why the gardener doesn't prune to hurt the branch. He prunes it so it can bear more fruit.

This Episode Is for You If…

  • You've been grinding hard but feel like God isn't showing up in your finances

  • You're chasing a version of success that's leaving you exhausted and empty

  • You want to build a business that's rooted in faith, not just fueled by hustle
