Summer Wellness Without Missing Out
Every summer, I watch the same cycle play out — and honestly, for years I was right in the middle of it myself.
You start the season with the best intentions. Then a trip happens, a cookout runs long, a few weekends blur together, and suddenly it’s Labor Day and you’re telling yourself you’ll reset in September. Sound familiar?
That cycle is exactly why I wanted to kick off this summer with a full series dedicated to what it actually looks like to take care of yourself during these months — physically, financially, spiritually, and emotionally. Episode 71 is where we start: the big picture, the foundation, the “why” behind everything we’re going to go deep on throughout the season.
You Don’t Have to Choose
Here’s the thing I need you to hear before anything else: summer is meant to be enjoyed. Beach days, ice cream, spontaneous plans, late nights with people you love — all of it. Wellness is supposed to support your life, not prevent you from living it.
The healthiest people I know aren’t the ones avoiding every fun thing. They’re the ones who know how to enjoy things without letting one weekend turn into a three-month spiral.
One fun weekend does not derail your progress. Three months of saying “I’ll start again after summer” does.
That’s the line I want you to carry with you all summer long. We talk about it more in the episode, but it really is the whole thesis of this series.
Balance vs. Excuses — There’s a Difference
I gave you permission to enjoy summer. Now let me push back on myself a little, because balance is not doing whatever you want all the time and calling it balance.
Balance is intentionally choosing when you’re going to indulge. It’s the difference between a decision and a default. If every weekend is a cheat weekend, it’s no longer a cheat weekend — it’s just your lifestyle. (Read that again.) The word I keep coming back to is intentional. Not restrictive. Intentional.
When you plan the girls’ trip, the date night, the vacation meals — and you’re present and deliberate about those choices — you can actually enjoy them without the guilt spiral after. That’s what we’re building toward.
What We Cover in This Episode
Episode 71 is the overview — the foundation for the whole summer series. We touch on nine areas that each get their own deep-dive episode throughout the season:
Hydration — why most of us are already behind, and what summer heat (and alcohol) does to that.
Summer food prep — keeping it light, realistic, and something you’ll actually follow. (I also make the case for why the sandwich deserves a full redemption arc.)
Movement outside the gym — summer hands you so many opportunities to move your body in ways that don’t feel like working out.
Morning sunlight and circadian rhythm — this one changed how I start my mornings, and it’s simpler than you think.
Vacation without guilt — how to enjoy it fully and come home without feeling like you have to start over.
Summer finances — why a slower season is actually one of the best times to build. The freedom you want next summer gets built by the choices you make this one.
Protecting what actually matters — the people, the moments, the memories. Summer is short. Don’t miss it.
A Personal Note on Faith and Summer Mornings
One of the things I share in this episode that felt really personal is how I’ve been spending my Tuesday mornings this season.
After I coach the early classes and finish my own workout, instead of going home to tiptoe around the house while my husband sleeps, I’ve been going to the beach with my Bible. Just me, the water, my devotion, and the Lord. It’s one day a week, but it has been genuinely reviving in a way I didn’t expect.
The beach is where I feel the most connected with God — it always has been. And if there’s one invitation I want to extend through this whole series, it’s this: find that place for yourself this summer. Whether it’s the beach, the mountains, your back porch, or a park bench — nature plus movement plus time with God does something for the soul that a gym never will.
The Goal Isn’t to Survive Summer
Drink the margarita. Go to the beach. Take the trip. Sleep in occasionally. Enjoy the cookout.
But also drink your water. Move your body. Save some money. Spend time with God. Take care of yourself.
Because the goal isn’t to survive summer and start over in the fall. The goal is to enjoy summer while continuing to become the person you’re trying to be.
That’s what this series is about — and I’m so excited to go deeper with you every single week.
